Geneseo Earns 2021-22 Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup

Geneseo Earns 2021-22 Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to release its final Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings for the 2021-22 academic year. The top three institutions after the winter season remained at the top following the spring championships with Geneseo at No. 1 followed by Cortland and New Paltz.

The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years.

This is Geneseo's sixth-straight time winning the Commissioner's Cup and seventh time overall. This spring, the men's and women's outdoor track and field teams captured the program's ninth and 14th overall titles respectively. Softball won its second-straight and fourth overall conference crown while the men's and women's lacrosse teams finished second.

The Cortland Red Dragons captured three spring championship crowns. Men's lacrosse won its fourth-straight and 28th overall title, the women's lacrosse team captured its second straight and 23rd overall team trophy and baseball won the progam's second-straight and 36th overall championship. Softball finished the season second, men's track and field was also second and women's track and field was third.

The New Paltz Hawks held the third spot after the women's tennis team finished the regular-season as the top seed and then finished second in the tournament. The softball team was fourth going into post-season and finished third in the conference championship tournament. The women's lacrosse team advanced to post-season as the sixth seed.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
