A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team hit another milestone for the program today winning its first ever NCAA tournament match against Lebanon Valley College 5-2.  The Red Dragons are now 18-6 on the season and making its first appearance in the national tournament.

"Today's win was another historic victory for women's tennis," said Head Coach Lonnie Mitchel.  "Handling adversity has been a theme for this group and today was no different.  Having our No. 2 doubles team come-from-behind to win its match energized the entire team and lifted us to victory in singles.  I am so proud of this group and what they have accomplished."

The Inside Story
Oneonta recorded the first point of the match at No. 3 doubles, as the duo of Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) and Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) easily defeated its opponents 8-1.

Lebanon Valley (15-5) tied the match with an 8-0 win at first doubles.

The deciding doubles point would come down to the No. 2 spot where the tandem of Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) found themselves behind 5-3.  Showing determination, the pair regroup and ran of five unanswered points to capture the match 8-5.

Leading 2-1 entering singles play, junior Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) won her match at No. 5 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 to put Oneonta up 3-1.

After Lebanon Valley won the point at second singles, the Red Dragons won at No. 3 and No. 6 to end the match at 5-2.  The clinching point came from sophomore Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis), as she won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.  Oneonta's other point came from sophomore Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) in straight sets at No. 3 singles.
