SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Cortland's Keirra Ettere its PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week while Oswego's Erica Scheblein has been named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
In 19th-ranked Cortland's lone game of the week, Ettere tallied all three goals in a 3-2 non-conference home overtime victory versus St. John Fisher on Wednesday. Her first goal tied the game at 1-1 at the 22:31 mark, and she gave the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead 39 seconds into the third quarter. Ettere scored the game winner just 1:09 into overtime to give Cortland the win. With her three goals, she set a single-season record for points by a freshman and also extended her consecutive point streak to all 14 games this season. Ettere now has a team-high 52 points on a team-best 22 goals and eight assists, breaking the old mark of 47 points set by Kelli Johnson in 2003. She also leads the Red Dragons (13-1) with five game-winning goals.
Scheblein had 26 saves against Brockport tying her for ninth place in Oswego field hockey history. She only allowed one goal in the shootout for her team. Against Oneonta she had eight saves in 60 minutes of play for the Lakers. She has seven shutouts thus far in the season.
