SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is pleased to announce its 2022 men's lacrosse annual awards including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Paul Rose Co-Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.
Offensive Player of the Year - Rocco Santillo, Brockport
Santillo, the senior midfielder, led the conference with 44 points with a total of 39 goals and nine assists. He also added 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers in 2022. Santillo held the title of SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks this season. He also earned All-Tournament team and First Team All-Conference honors.
Defensive Player of the Year - Mark Pav, Geneseo
Geneseo goalie, Pav, started in all 17 games this season for the Knights. He had 203 saves with 69 of them being in conference games. Pav ended the season with a 5.62 conference goals against average. In the conference championship, Pav had a 65.0 save percentage and held the Red Dragons to seven goals in the final game. He earned SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week status three times this season.
Rookie of the Year - Logan Prescott, Oswego
In his rookie season, the freshman from Lake Grove, NY, started in all 14 games for Oswego. Prescott earned a spot on the 2022 All-SUNYAC second team as a face-off specialist after winning 174 face-offs for the Lakers.
Paul Rose Co-Coaching Staff of the Year - Brockport
Head coach Ben Wineburg and staff of Justin Hussey, Tim Britton and Jeremiah Sorenson led the Golden Eagles to a No. 3 seed with a 5-2 record in regular-season conference play in 2022. Advancing to the SUNYAC semifinals, but falling short to the Knights of Geneseo, the Golden Eagles had seven athletes on the SUNYAC All-Conference team and one athlete on the All-Tournament team. Brockport ended the season with a 10-5 overall record.
Paul Rose Co-Coaching Staff of the Year - Cortland
After winning the program's 28th overall conference title, Steve Beville and staff, Matt Cutia and Rory Whipple, earned Co-Coaching Staff of the Year. With a 10-game winning streak through the conference tournament, the Red Dragons secured their fourth-straight SUNYAC men's lacrosse crown. Under the leadership of the coaching staff, 11 Cortland players appeared on the SUNYAC All-Conference team. With an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament, the Red Dragons will play St. Lawrence on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. The Cortland men's lacrosse team is currently 13-6 overall.
Paul Rose coached the Geneseo men's lacrosse team for 10 seasons from 1971-80, compiling a record of 83-44 and leading the team to the ECAC Upstate Championship in 1974 and 1975. He went on to coach at Division I Colgate and at SUNY-Morrisville. Rose was inducted into the Geneseo Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and remained active in Geneseo's Men's Lacrosse Alumni activities. The Cortland ('67) Hall of Fame member passed away on March 27, 2010.
