SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) names Cortland's Anthony Ruggiero the PrestoSports Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week and Plattsburgh's Teddy Healy the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Ruggiero led 11th-ranked Cortland (12-2-1 overall, 6-1 SUNYAC) to a 3-0 conference win at Oswego on Saturday afternoon with a pair of goals. He scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 34th minute and netted Cortland's third goal of the game in the 63rd minute as the Red Dragons moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings with 18 points.For the season, Ruggiero leads Cortland with 23 points on nine goals and five assists.
First-year goalkeeper Healy played to a 2-0 record with nine saves, a .900 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average on the week. Both of Healy's victories came on the road. He began the week by making five saves to record his first collegiate shutout in Plattsburgh's 1-0 victory at Brockport on Friday. Healy concluded the week by making four saves in Plattsburgh's 2-1 victory at Geneseo on Saturday. Healy's performance helped the Cardinals move into sixth place in the SUNYAC standings.
