SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recognizes Tom Kretzler of Brockport and Zack Durant of Cortland as the PrestoSports Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week.
In the six games the Golden Eagles have played since Tuesday, Kretzler dominated at the plate and on the mound. in 21 at bats, Kretzler recorded at .571 batting average, .600 on-base percentage, 1.095 slugging percentage on 12 hits, with nine runs, nine rbi's, three stolen bases and two home runs including a grand slam in the teams 15-2 victory over SUNY Canton. On the mound, Kretzler got the start against Simpson recording his first win of the season. Over the course of 5.2 innings, Kretzler struck out 10 batters giving up five hits and one unearned run to finish the game with a 0.00 ERA and a 15.88 k/9.
Durant didn't allow any runs, just two hits, one walk and struck out five in six innings to earn the win in Cortland's 7-5 home victory Friday over Johnson & Wales, an NCAA tournament qualifier from 2021.
