Cortland's Owens and Haegele Earn PrestoSports Volleyball Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selected Cortland teammates Maya Owens and Carly Haegele as the PrestoSports Women's Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Owens registered 29 kills (2.4 per set) with only three errors in 52 attempts for a stellar .500 attack percentage in four Cortland victories. In the Red Dragons' SUNYAC-opening sweep at Oswego Tuesday, Owens totaled 12 kills and five digs. She had eight kills and a .583 attack percentage Friday at Russell Sage and did not commit an error in a pair of matches Saturday, finishing with a combined nine kills in 21 attempts in wins over Skidmore and Union.
Haegele averaged 5.5 digs per set over 11 sets during a 4-0 week for the Red Dragons that featured four sweeps. She started the week Tuesday with 21 digs in Cortland's win at Oswego in the SUNYAC opener for the Red Dragons. Haegele also had 17 digs and three aces in a win at Union and 15 digs and three aces in a victory over Skidmore, both on Saturday in matches hosted by Union.
