SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Geneseo's Katrina Clare as its PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week and New Paltz's Ryan Dowling as the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Clare, the sophomore forward, led the Knights to a pair of victories this week. Clare recorded her first-career hat trick, scoring three goals in a 3:48 span of the third quarter to propel the Knights to a 3-1 win over the Pioneers. Trailing 1-0 against Oneonta in the third quarter, Clare earned an assist on the game-tying goal as the Knights completed a come-from-behind 2-1 win. Clare leads the Knights with seven goals and 15 points this season.
Dowling started both shutout performances for the Hawks this week, including an impressive outing against a top-25 team in the Ithaca Bombers on the road. New Paltz got up 3-0 early in the first half, but the second half was played mostly on the Hawks' defensive end with Dowling doing all she can to keep the shutout alive. In the full 60 minutes of action, the senior finished with five saves in the, 3-0 win. She again made the start against Morrsiville playing 30 minutes and making the lone save of the game to aid in the 8-0 victory.
