AMBLER, P.A. – The Oswego State Baseball thrived in all aspects of the game en route to a 8-2 victory over the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown this evening. Laker pitchers Jacob Sanders and Thomas Pecchia held the Blue Jays to only three hits on the day, while the offense exploded for 14 hits of their own.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Oswego State 8, Elizabethtown 2.
Location: Skip Wilson Field, Temple University's Ambler Campus, Pennsylvania
Records: #2 Oswego State 30-10 (1-0 Regional Round), #3 Elizabethtown 22-21 (0-1 Regional Round)
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Elizabethtown started the scoring early, pulling out to a 1-0 lead after a walk and later scoring on a wild pitch.
-
Senior Paul Tammaro led off the bottom of the first with a double, and was followed up by a two-run home run off the bat of fellow senior Ryan Enos to put Oswego up 2-1.
-
Lakers starting pitcher Sanders went through the second inning unscathed, downing the Blue Jays in order.
-
Elizabethtown was on pace for a 1-2-3 inning of their own in the bottom half of the second, until a CJ McCarthy walk set up Tammaro for a two-run blast to left field and giving the Lakers a 4-1 lead.
-
After a Blue Jay was hit by a pitch to start the third inning, both teams would head for cover due to impending storms and lightning strikes in the area.
-
After a nearly three hour rain delay, Sanders was replaced by Pecchia after only allowing one run and not giving up a single hit through two innings of work.
-
The Blue Jays would tack on a run in the inning off of Pecchia to pull closer, 4-2.
-
The Lakers continued to display their dominant offense in the bottom of the fourth inning, as four singles from McCarthy, Tammaro, Enos, and Julian Drew and a double from Lukas Olsson pushed three runs across to extend the lead, 7-2.
-
After holding the Blue Jays in check for three more innings, Oswego struck again in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Ryan Weiss solo home run to take a 8-2 lead.
-
Oswego would hold down the Blue Jays in the final two innings, leading to an 8-2 final score.
-
Pecchia had a sensational relief outing, tossing seven scoreless innings and only allowing three hits on five strikeouts.
-
Eight different Lakers recorded hits in the game and leading the offensive charge was Tammaro, going 3-for-5 with a homerun, a double, three RBI's and three runs.
